Evaluation

The Character Programme  has been piloted with Reception pupils in Floreat schools and has been independenly evaluated by researchers at the Jubilee Centre for Character and Virtues  based at the University of Birmingham.

As part of the evaluation process teachers completed observations of five representative pupils before starting Virtue Literacy lessons.  The observation rubric asked teachers to note behaviours which indicated strengths and areas for development in relation to Floreat's four core virtues: honesty, perseverance, curiosity and service.

Teachers completed a second round of observations in February, focusing on the same five children. These children were also used as a focus group, where the researcher read the pupils a story and engaged them in a virtue-led discussion.

Interviews were carried out with class teachers and with Floreat staff involved in the development of the Programme.

The findings of this research are presented in the Final Evaluation Report below.
